From September 2 to 3, 2024, a delegation led by Dr. Jin Xiangcan, chief scientist of the River and Lake Ecological Restoration Studio of our association, conducted a two-day ecological inspection of Taihu Lake. The purpose of this investigation is to deeply understand the current ecological environment of Taihu Lake and provide scientific basis for further watershed management. As an important freshwater lake in eastern China, the health status of Taihu Lake directly affects the ecological security of surrounding areas and the quality of life of millions of residents. Therefore, the governance of Taihu Lake is not only the focus of domestic environmental protection, but also is expected to provide valuable experience for lake governance in the world.
Under the leadership of Chief Scientist Jin Xiangcan, the delegation conducted a comprehensive investigation on the water environment quality, ecosystem status and environmental treatment projects in Taihu Lake. Through on-site observation and in-depth communication with local environmental protection departments, the delegation has a clear understanding of the main environmental problems currently facing Taihu Lake.
In the future, IEEPA will continue to pay attention to the progress of ecological restoration of Taihu Lake, and based on the results of this inspection, strengthen scientific research and technical support, promote more effective and practical lake management technologies and application demonstrations, and contribute to lake governance and ecological restoration in Taihu Lake and even the world.
